Leg 3 - Ceduna to Second Valley

Ceduna to Port Augusta was still wheat country. Saw some huge silos along the way and a lot of harvesting activity going on. Had a break at the Minnipa Apex Park rest area where there is a very interesting toilet complex - "The Concrete Crappa". We stopped at Kimba which prides itself on being halfway across Australia and has a huge Galah statue which attracts a lot of attention. We made our way to Port Augusta and checked in at the Shoreline Caravan Park for the night.

From Port Augusta we headed down towards Adelaide. Had some delicious fish and chips at Port Wakefield. Once we got to Port Wakefield the scenery changed from wheat to orchards, vineyards and olive groves. We drove through Adelaide bypassing the central city. Once through the city it was again olive groves and vineyards. Very picturesque with lots of rolling hills and quaint little towns. We were planning to stay at Normanville but being the weekend it was very busy so we kept going and found a nice little caravan park in Second Valley. We checked in here for 2 nights to rest up before our crossing to Kangaroo Island.

Second valley is a lovely sheltered cove with a swimming beach and a jetty well known to fishermen for its squid. Paj caught a couple of squid and cooked them up. Woke up to hundreds of Galahs at sunrise. We decided to spend the day exploring the area so we headed down to Cape Jervis where we were due to catch the ferry the next day and had a look round there. We also had a look at Rapid Bay and a couple of the other bays along the coast. There are some lovely historical buildings in the area.
