Paj and Heather's Big Adventure 2008

Part Seven - Down the Centre

After a couple of nights in Katherine to stock up on food, laundry etc we set off down the centre.  We called in at Bitter Springs and then went on to the Mataranka Homestead where we had lunch and a dip in the thermal pools.  There was a large colony of Red Flying Foxes up in the trees.  It was a lovely spot.  We spent the first night at Dunmarra.

Wycliff Well was an interesting place.  It is apparently the UFO capital of Australia.  There are newspaper cuttings all over the roadhouse walls about all the alleged sightings in the area.  There is a big collection of dolls and other strange objects and a strange collection of cartoon characters scattered round the caravan park.  Paj had to have his photo taken with the Phantom, not once but twice!

The Devils Marbles were worth a stop.  They were really quite unusual and looked like someone had just dropped them there.

We arrived at Alice Springs on the 9th of September.  Paj’s camera broke the next day so we made the decision to keep on going through to Adelaide and get that fixed then come back up to Alice Springs and explore this area.  We also decided we would look at changing the caravan while we are there as this one is really too small for what we are doing and we are both getting very frustrated with it.

After a couple of nights rest we set off again.  Coober Pedy was an interesting place and we are both looking forward to spending a bit of time there on the way back.  We had a night at the Cadney Roadhouse then another night in Port Augusta.

We arrived in Adelaide on Saturday 13th September at lunch time and had bought a new caravan by the end of that afternoon!
