After an enjoyable few days in Broome we set off back towards Kununarra.  We got to Fitzroy Crossing at lunch time and decided to head up to the Geike Gorge in time for their boat trip mid afternoon.  It was a really interesting trip up into the gorge and quite spectacular and we got lots of photos.  There was lots of bird life and freshwater crocodiles along the river bank.  A very pleasant, leisurely afternoon.  We stayed in the Fitzroy Lodge budget rooms for the night as we had had enough of the tent by then.  We went up to the restaurant for a buffet roast dinner.

We set off early the next morning bound for the Bungle Bungles.  We had heard so much about this place that we had to go.  The road in is 4x4 only and no caravans allowed.  It was a rough road in and was actually what we expected the Gibb River to be like.  Bull dust holes, deep creek crossings and lots of corrugations.  We stayed at the camp at the south end of the park.  It was a nice camping area with flush toilets and firewood supplied so we were able to have a camp fire both nights.  No, Paj didn’t burn himself again!  The park is full of walking tracks to gorges and lookouts.  We explored Echidna Chasm at the north end in the morning then went to the south end and did the Cathedral Gorge and Domes walks in the afternoon.  The rock formations are amazing and completely different from one end of the park to the other.  It was an incredible place.  We were going to do a helicopter flight over them but after talking to people who had done the flight and walked it on the ground we decided not to.  The Argyle Diamand mine tour we wanted to do in Kununarra flew over it too so we didn’t need to do both.  Paj can have his helicopter ride somewhere else.

We arrived in Kununarra 20th Ausgust 2008.  The car was booked in for a service the morning of the 27th August then we are off again.
